Assessment- Final Debate

Hi everyone,

It's time for our final debate!  The formal debate will take place on Thursday, March 18th.

The topics and groups for each debate are as follows:

1. China’s one-child (or family planning) policy


For:  Walter, Vivien, Taily, Alex, Susan

Against:  Ahmed, Jing, Danko, Anson


2.  Should military service be mandatory?

For:  Sophie, Barry, Elden, Ian

Against:  Nero, Iris, Freya, Nouf


All groups should work together to create a strong team and an organized structure within their group. Each group should elect a member to act as chairperson, and to take notes, provide a rebuttal, and conclusion.




Debates will be marked based on the following criteria:

• Participation

• Use of language of debating

• Quality of ideas and research

• Organization and structure

• Team work

• Relevant vocabulary (within debate and on signs)

• Correct pronunciation


• Checking understanding

• Taking turns in an organized fashion

• After debate: your reflection and comments
